Shraddha Walker Murder Case: According to the police, Aftab Poonawala is a ‘sharp-minded’ person and was more comfortable answering in English, though he knows Hindi too well. It is believed that he used to cut pieces of Shraddha’s body at night and at that time he used to turn on the water pump to suppress the noise.

New Delhi. In the flat in South Delhi’s Mehrauli where 28-year-old Aftab Poonawalla brutally murdered his live-in partner and Mumbai resident Shraddha Walker on May 18, the water pump used to start working at odd hours in the night.
About six months ago, in a gruesome incident in Delhi’s Mehrauli area, Poonawala allegedly strangulated his live-in partner Shraddha to death. Then his dead body was cut into 35 pieces and kept in a refrigerator of 300 liters capacity for about three weeks. After this he threw them one by one in different parts of the national capital.
Poonawalla (28) was arrested by the Delhi Police on Saturday, November 12, on charges of murdering Shraddha Walkar in May this year. The Delhi Police on Tuesday took the accused Poonawalla to the forest area of south Delhi’s Chhatarpur and spent nearly three hours locating the specific spots where he allegedly dumped Shraddha’s body parts.
According to the police, Aftab Poonawalla is a ‘sharp-minded’ person and was more comfortable answering in English, though he knows Hindi well too. It is believed that he used to cut pieces of Shraddha’s body at night and at that time he used to turn on the water pump to suppress the noise. Neighbors told that Poonawala didn’t interact much with people, used to come home in the evening, and often ordered food from online food delivery apps.
The next morning after Walker was allegedly strangled, Poonawalla went to the nearby market, where he first bought a refrigerator. Investigation reveals that he paid Rs 23,500 through a credit card. Then he went to the cutlery shop to buy a knife and a garbage bag.
The shopkeeper alleges that while taking delivery, he got a cut on his hand. After this Poonawalla went to a local clinic for treatment. Recalling the incident, Anil, the doctor who treated him, described Poonawalla as an “arrogant young man”. The doctor said, “There was no remorse on his face… he was constantly speaking in English.” He told the doctor that he shifted from Mumbai to Delhi because IT companies here offered better salaries.
According to Manikpur police in Vasai town of Palghar district, Shraddha Walker, a mass media graduate, worked at a call center in Mumbai’s Malad area and met Poonawalla in 2019 through the dating app Bumble. The accused also worked in the same call center. Over opposition from Shraddha’s family, the couple settled in Naigaon and then moved to Delhi.
