These 75 councilors are contesting MCD elections again, their property increased from 3 to 4000 percent in 5 years 

There are 75 out of 84 corporators who are trying their luck again in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, whose assets have increased by three to 4,437 percent during their tenure. This information has been given by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) in its report.

New Delhi: 75 of the 84 councilors who are trying their luck again in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections are such, whose assets have increased from three to 4,437 percent during their tenure. This information has been given by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) in its report. ADR and Delhi Election Watch analyzed the affidavits filed by 84 re-election councilors, including independents, with their nominations, and revealed that their average assets during the 2017 civic elections were Rs 2.93 crore.

According to the report, “The assets of 75 out of 84 councilors (89 percent) contesting for re-election have increased by three to 4,437 percent, while the assets of nine councilors (11 percent) have decreased by two to 76 percent.” According to the ADR, the average assets of these 84 councilors in the year 2022 have been estimated at Rs 4.37 crore and since the 2017 elections, their assets have increased by an average of Rs 1.44 crore. According to the report, the average assets of these corporators have increased by about 49 percent.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator Vineet Vohra from Ward No. 59-Paschim Vihar has declared the maximum increase in assets worth Rs 28.61 crore. His assets were Rs 9.33 crore in the year 2017, which has increase to Rs 37.94 crore in the year 2022. According to the ADR, there has been an increase of Rs 25.58 crore in the assets of BJP Corporator Nandini Sharma of Ward No. 149- Malviya Nagar. Sharma’s assets have increased from Rs 24.25 crore in the year 2017 to Rs 49.84 crore in the year 2022.

Ward number 173- Greater Kailash BJP Corporator Shikha Roy’s assets have increased by Rs 6 crore in the last five years and have increased to Rs 12.81 crore in the year 2022 as compared to Rs 6.81 crore in the year 2017. Significantly, voting will be held on December 4 for the election of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
