New Delhi. From filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) to major banking transactions, it is necessary to have a PAN card. Apart from this, it is mandatory to have a PAN card for many other financial works. At the same time, the Aadhaar card is used to perform many tasks and to show identity. In such a situation, the Income Tax Department has fixed March 31, 2023, as the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar.
According to the advisory issued by the Income Tax Department, “As per the Income Tax Act, 1961, it is mandatory for all PAN holders to link their PAN with Aadhaar before March 31, 2023, except those falling in the exempted category. PAN cards not linked with Aadhaar will become inactive from April 1, 2023.

Giving advice to taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhaar soon, the department said, “What is mandatory is essential. Don’t delay, add today! According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance in May 2017, the “exempted category” includes residents of the states of Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and Meghalaya. Apart from this, non-resident Indians and people above 80 years of age are also included in the exemption category.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), in a circular issued on March 30, had said that once PAN becomes inoperative, a person would be liable for all consequences under the Income Tax Act and would face multiple consequences. As per this circular, income tax returns cannot be filed using an inoperative PAN.

- >> Enter the name, PAN number and Aadhaar number given in the Aadhaar card.
- >> Tick the square if only the year of birth is given in the Aadhaar card.
- >> Now enter the captcha code.
- >> Now click on Link Aadhaar button
- >> Your PAN will be linked to your Aadhaar.
This is how you can link through SMS
You have to type UIDPAN on your phone. After this, write the 12-digit Aadhaar number. Then write the 10-digit PAN number. Now send the message mentioned in step 1 to 567678 or 56161.
