New Delhi. All diesel and petrol-powered vehicles used by the Himachal Pradesh government will soon be replaced by electric vehicles in a phased manner over the next five years. Naresh Chauhan, Principal Media Advisor to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, said that priority is being given to EVs to keep the environment clean and green. In the next 5 years, the government department will buy only electric vehicles, and charging stations will also be increased.
Naresh Chauhan said, “We will preserve the environment and also save energy. Our government has decided to go for electric vehicles in all government departments during the next five years. From now on, electric vehicles will be bought, and charging stations will be set up.”
The new Chief Minister also announced
Earlier, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government has decided to rapidly adopt green fuel. Presiding over the meeting of senior officials, Sukhu said that amidst the increasing movement of vehicles in the state, the government has decided to promote electric vehicles.
Rapidly growing demand for EV
The Chief Minister said that a maximum number of charging stations would be set up at strategically identified destinations for the convenience of electric vehicle owners. The Chief Minister asked the officers to work fast for the effective implementation of the social welfare scheme. Recently, in a report by Bain & Company, it was told that by 2030, 40-45 percent of EV two-wheelers and 15-20 percent of the number of electric four-wheelers are expected.
EV sales are up 185 percent
Sales of electric vehicles in the country increased by about 185 percent year-on-year to 1,11,971 units in October. This includes the sale of passenger vehicles. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association of India (FADA) said that the sales of electric vehicles stood at 39,329 units in October last year. Total electric passenger vehicle sales jumped 178 percent to 3,745 units last month from 1,346 units in the same month a year ago.
