However, these top opposition leaders of UP are unlikely to join the yatra led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. People related to this matter told that these leaders have rejected the invitation of Congress citing their already fixed programs. When Jairam Ramesh, the head of the Congress media cell, was asked about this, he said that the Congress would wait and see who would come on the Bharat Jodo Yatra when it enters UP on January 3.
In a conversation with the English news channel NDTV, Jairam Ramesh said, ‘I will not reach any conclusion at this time. I think we should wait till the yatra starts and see who turns up and who doesn’t.
It was believed that if the opposition leaders of UP were involved in this yatra led by Rahul Gandhi, it would send a message that the former Congress president would be the pivot of opposition unity in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to be held in the year 2024.
However, Jairam Ramesh denied that Congress is trying to project Rahul Gandhi as the face of opposition unity in the year 2024.
