Big accident in Sikkim, an army truck fell into a deep gorge, and 16 soldiers martyred 

Sikkim Army Truck Accident: According to the army, the truck fell into a deep gorge while taking a sharp turn. The army said, “On December 23, 16 brave soldiers of the Indian Army lost their lives when an army truck met with an accident at Gema in North Sikkim.”

Gangtok. 16 army personnel were killed in a road accident in North Sikkim’s Jema on Friday. Four soldiers were also injured in the incident. The army gave this information. A truck involved in a convoy of three vehicles going towards Thangu after leaving Chatten in the morning met with an accident. The accident took place around 8 am at Gema 3, about 15 km from Lachen, located about 130 km from the state capital Gangtok. 

According to a senior police officer, the injured have been airlifted to a military hospital in North Bengal. According to the army, the truck fell into a deep gorge while taking a sharp turn. The army said, “On December 23, 16 brave soldiers of the Indian Army lost their lives when an army truck met with an accident at Gema in North Sikkim.” Three JCOs and 13 soldiers were killed in the accident.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed ‘deep sorrow’ over the death of Indian Army soldiers due to a road accident in North Sikkim. He said, ‘The nation is deeply grateful to him for his service and commitment. My condolences to the bereaved families; I pray for the speedy recovery of the soldiers injured in the accident. 
Chungthang Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Arun Thatal said that all 16 bodies have been recovered from the accident site. That, who was at the spot along with a police team from Lachen, said the condition of the four seriously injured army personnel remained unknown. The bodies are being taken to Government STNM Hospital in Gangtok for post-mortem and will later be handed over to the Army. The regiment of the victims is yet to be ascertained.
