The time has come when love jihad should be defined legally
New Delhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that while coming from Congress to BJP, he did not give up his ideology in any way. Rather, he wasted 22 years of his life in Congress. He said that in Congress he used to worship only one family, while in BJP he is serving the country.

Sarma said these things in an interview given to NDTV. Once a Congress loyalist, Sarma left the Congress in 2015 and since then has held the post of the minister and is now the chief minister of the state. Like BJP, he also told many principles of Hindutva on riots and crimes. He also linked the Shraddha Walker murder case with love jihad.

On being asked how he would view it if this type of crime happens in the rest of the community, Sarma said that the time has come to define love jihad legally. He claimed that there is much evidence of such cases in his state. During the interview, CM Sarma also tried to put the responsibility for the riots on a particular community. He said that normally no Hindu indulges in riots.

When asked about the court’s decision regarding the 2002 Gujarat riots and the riots, he said, ‘I said, it is very rare that Hindus are involved in riots. Hindus do not believe in Jihad. Hindus are peace-loving. When asked, ‘Would he have said the same thing if he was in Congress,’ Sarma said, ‘Where did the ideology change in this. I said – Hindus are peace-loving. Will Congress disagree with this?
This comment was made about Rahul Gandhi
Significantly, CM Sarma had said about Rahul Gandhi’s grown beard during the Bharat Jodo Yatra last month that he was looking like Saddam Hussain. It would have been better if he had kept his appearances like Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mahatma Gandhi.
