Washington: 18 people have died in various incidents caused by the snowstorm in the US. Strong winds are blowing along with snowfall in most of the states of the country. About 14 lakh people have been affected due to the electricity outage. 5200 flights have been canceled due to the Bam Cyclone, which has disappointed thousands of people going on Christmas holidays. People have to hide in their homes because it is freezing cold outside. The temperature has dropped to -45°C in many major cities including New York.
Havre, Montana, near the Canadian border, recorded minus 39 degrees Celsius. Apart from the aircraft, rail and road transport services have also been disrupted due to snowfall and storms. 20 crore people i.e. about 60 percent of the country’s population are facing the bone-chilling cold. Bomb cyclone is very dangerous
Bomb cyclones cause snowstorms severe thunderstorms and heavy rains. This cyclone is formed when cold air collides with warm air. This process is called Bambogenesis. Bomb cyclones are usually seen during winter because these cyclones are formed due to the meeting of cold and warm air. Bomb cyclones form over the northwestern Atlantic, northwestern Pacific, and sometimes over the Mediterranean Sea. National Weather Service scientist John Moore said the bomb cyclone formed when cold Arctic air in the Great Lakes region mixed with much warmer air to the east.
Emergency services have also come to a standstill in the country’s Buffalo and New York. Along with this, the international airports of the city have also been closed. Officials attributed the deaths to car accidents, downed trees, and other effects of the storm. US President Joe Biden said please take this storm very seriously. People’s Christmas holiday has been ruined because the weather did not give them a chance to celebrate. According to estimates released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 18 million people have fallen ill in the US so far this season. Out of this, 1 lakh 90 thousand people were admitted to hospitals and 12,000 deaths occurred due to flu.
