PM Modi congratulates Fiji’s new Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, India has an old relationship

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitwini Rabuka. PM Modi also said that he looks forward to working together to further strengthen the long-standing close ties between India and Fiji.

Let us tell you that Sitwini Rabuka was sworn in as the 12th Prime Minister of Fiji on Saturday. The 74-year-old Rabuka was nominated as prime minister after winning a one-vote margin at a meeting of Fiji’s parliament in Suva. With this, the period of political deadlock that continued for the last 10 days on this small Pacific island ended.
Rabuka, head of the People’s Alliance party, has been made prime minister after proving his majority under a coalition with two other parties. He also held the post of Prime Minister of Fiji almost two decades ago. Rabuka was the Prime Minister from 1992 to 1999. There have been four military coups in Fiji in the last 35 years, in which Rabuka has played a major role in two coups.
Sitweni Rabuka was born on 13 September 1948 in the village of Drakeniwai on Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second-largest island. He has an old relationship with India. He did his graduation from the Indian Defense Service College and then obtained a master’s degree in science from Madras University in 1979.
