Manila. The Philippines is facing natural disasters these days. Heavy rains and landslides that started on Christmas day have again created a flood situation in many areas. The death toll due to this fierce rain and flood has increased to 25, while 26 are said to be missing. Farmers have also suffered huge losses. The Manila Times informed about this situation on Thursday quoting the National Disaster Risk Management Council (NDRRMC).

The disaster not only wreaked havoc in the country but also pushed more than 45,000 people to the evacuation centers for shelter. The disaster agency said that the missing fishermen had reportedly gone out to sea despite the dangers associated with bad weather, after which no trace of their whereabouts could be found. The rains caused flash floods and landslides on December 24, and Christmas Eve, affecting 9 out of 14 municipalities in various provinces.
According to the weather bureau, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), a shear line is an area where warm and cold air meet and form heavy rain clouds. When it rains here, the chances of landslides increase. At present, the disaster agency is doing its work to deal with the situation. Rescue operations are still underway and the impact on agriculture is being assessed.
