Rajnath Singh said that on 9 December 2022, the Chinese Army PLA attempted to unilaterally change the status quo by encroaching on the LAC in the Yangtse area of the Tawang sector. Our army faced this effort of China with determination. A scuffle also took place in this clash. The Indian Army bravely stopped the Chinese Army from encroaching on our territory and forced them to return to their posts. He told that soldiers from both sides were injured in the clash. However, he said that not a single Indian soldier has been martyred in this skirmish and no one is seriously injured.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that after this incident, the local commander of the area held a flag meeting with his Chinese counterpart on 11 December 2022 under the established arrangement and discussed the incident. I want to tell this house that none of our soldiers have died and no one has been seriously injured. The PLA soldiers went back to their places due to the timely intervention of the Indian military commanders.
He further said that I want to assure the House that our forces are fully committed to safeguarding our territorial integrity and are always ready to stop any attempt against it. I am sure that this House will unanimously support the valor and courage of our forces. He said that the Chinese side was forbidden from such action and asked to maintain peace on the border. This issue has also been raised with the Chinese side at the diplomatic level.
The Indian Army said on Monday that Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed on December 9 at a location near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang sector, in which some soldiers from both sides suffered minor injuries. Amidst the border standoff between the two sides in eastern Ladakh for more than 30 months, there was a clash near Yangtse on LAC in the sensitive sector last Friday.
Several Congress MPs had given notices of an adjournment motion on Tuesday, demanding discussion in both the Houses of Parliament regarding the situation on the border with China. Party MP Manish Tiwari has given a notice in the Lok Sabha demanding that question hour, zero hour, and other legislative works are stopped and a discussion on the subject be held, while Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala and Syed Nasir Hussain have given similar notices in the Rajya Sabha.
