China’s foreign minister expressed a desire to work with India amidst the tension and said- contact between the two countries remains intact

Beijing. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday that Beijing is ready to work with India to “stabilize and strengthen” bilateral relations. Wang Yi said that the two countries are committed to maintaining stability in the border areas, where tensions have been high since 2020. Addressing a seminar on International Situation and China’s Foreign Relations in 2022, the Chinese Foreign Minister said that the two countries have maintained contacts at the diplomatic and military levels.
Wang Yi was promoted
He said, ‘China and India have maintained contacts at the diplomatic and military levels. Both countries are committed to maintaining stability in the border areas. Wang Yi was recently promoted to the high-powered political bureau during the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) convention. “We are ready to work with India to move forward in the direction of stabilizing and strengthening China-India relations,” he said at the symposium.
17 rounds of talks between the two countries
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are special representatives in the mechanism set up to resolve the India-China border dispute. This mechanism has remained defunct in the current round of border standoff. The two countries have so far held 17 rounds of talks to resolve the deadlock. According to a joint press release issued after the talks, the 17th round of India-China Corps Commander level meeting was held on December 20, in which both sides agreed to maintain close contact and continue the dialogue through military and diplomatic channels.
Commentary on Sino-US relations
Wang Yi also briefly mentioned China’s relations with Pakistan in his address. He said the two countries “continue to firmly support each other, uphold the all-weather strategic partnership and strengthen friendship”. On Sino-US relations, Wang Yi said, “We have resolutely rejected America’s erroneous policy towards China and are seeking the right way to bring the two countries closer to each other.”

The Chinese Foreign Minister said, “The US continues to see China as its main rival and is involved in encircling, suppressing and provoking China, in such a situation, China-US relations are passing through a period of serious difficulties.” On the issue of Taiwan, Wang Yi said that China is not afraid of America’s bullying. He said, ‘We are not intimidated by any powerful country or its bullying and have worked resolutely to safeguard China’s core interests and national pride.’
China commented on relations with Russia
However, he spoke openly about the development of Sino-Russian relations despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Wang Yi said, “As good-neighborly countries, we have deepened friendship and cooperation with Russia, and made the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between China and Russia more mature and flexible.” He said, Over the past year, China and Russia have firmly supported each other in upholding their respective core interests, and our mutual political and strategic trust has been further strengthened during this period.
