Kyiv. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Monday that his government plans to hold a peace summit at the United Nations by the end of February, primarily to mark one year of Russia’s war. He said that United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres could play the role of mediator in this. Kuleba said that Ukraine will do whatever it can to win the war in 2023. At the same time, he said that diplomacy always plays an important role.

Kuleba said that the Ukrainian government wants to organize a peace summit by the end of February. He said, “The United Nations can be the best place to organize this summit because it will not be dependent on any particular country.” Regarding the role of Guterres, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine said, “He has shown himself to be an efficient person.” He has proven himself as a mediator and negotiator, and most importantly, he has laid emphasis on principle and honesty. So we would welcome their active participation.
On the other hand, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on phone on Monday and during this sought India’s support in implementing his ‘peace formula’. According to an official statement, Modi said that Russia and Ukraine should return to dialogue and diplomacy to find a permanent solution to their differences. He assured Zelensky that India would support any peace effort.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that Prime Minister Modi requested the Ukrainian authorities to make arrangements for the continuation of education of Indian students who had to return from Ukraine earlier this year. It may be noted that hundreds of Indian medical students returned home after the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began on 24 February. Concerns have been expressed on various forums including the Parliament regarding his further studies.
