Los Angeles. Where the American state of California (California Severe Cold) is in the grip of severe cold, there is a possibility of a more powerful storm on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the situation in the state is very bad due to floods. It is as if the whole city has been engulfed in floodwater. The flood water also took away a boy.
Flood warnings have been issued for millions of residents. About 50,000 people have been ordered to leave their areas and the power supply to more than 1,10,000 homes and business centers has been disrupted due to heavy rains, lightning, hail, and landslides.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said during a visit to the city of Capitola on the Santa Cruz coast that at least 17 people have died in the storm and related incidents that began in late December last year. The city was badly affected by the floods last week.
The California Highway Patrol said those killed in the incidents included a pickup truck driver and motorcyclist who were killed Tuesday morning after a eucalyptus tree fell on Highway 99 in the San Joaquin Valley near Visalia.
Newsom said that these conditions are serious and fatal. The effects of the storm that began on Monday dumped more than a foot and a half (45 cm) of rain in the mountain regions of Southern California and more than five feet (1.5 m) of snow at the Sierra Nevada ski resort. Roads are closed due to rockslides and landslides from the mountains. Some parts of the route have turned into waterways due to floods. Many houses have been washed away due to the overflowing rivers.
Brian Briggs, a resident said that we are all stuck here. Flooding in remote Matilija Canyon triggered a landslide that completely buried a home and cut off the only road to nearby Ojai.
