The farmers of Madavag used to grow potatoes earlier. In 1953-54 Chaiya Ram Mehta of the village planted an apple orchard. He also encouraged other people in the village to take up apple farming. Gradually everyone started cultivating apples here. After the year 2000, Madavag’s apple started getting recognition in the country. Now the gardeners here cultivate apples with modern techniques like a high-density plantation.
The quality of Madavag’s apples is excellent. That’s why it is sold immediately at a high rate. Madhavan’s apple is also very much liked in foreign countries. Before Madavag, Kyari village in Shimla district was the richest village in Asia. Kyari was also made Asia’s richest village by apple.
Madavag and Kyari remained role models
The progress of the Madavag and Kyari villages is encouraging other villages located around it to do something new. Dashauhi village located near Madavag village is also becoming famous for its high-quality apples. Apple orchards are situated at an altitude of 8000 to 8500 feet in Dasholi village. This altitude is ideal for high-quality apple production. Dasholi’s apple is beating even the apples of Kinnaur and Jammu Kashmir in quality. The gardeners here are not only producing high-quality apples but are also making a record of production per acre. According to the local businessmen, the small gardener of Dasholi is also producing 1000 boxes of apples.
