Srinagar: Heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar may dampen the enthusiasm of the Congress to celebrate the closing ceremony of the ‘ Bharat Jodo Yatra ‘ to be held today. The Congress is organizing a mega rally at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium to mark the conclusion of the 135-day-long Kanyakumari to Kashmir Yatra. Apart from the entire Congress leadership, more than a dozen leaders of opposition parties are expected to attend the rally. However, the snowfall has closed the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, and air traffic may also be disrupted. Due to bad weather, many opposition leaders who reached the closing ceremony of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, may not be able to attend it.
Srinagar airport director Kuldeep Singh Rishi said on Twitter that all flights to Srinagar have been delayed due to low visibility and continuous snowfall. Vistara Airlines has canceled both its flights from Delhi to Srinagar for a day. The closing ceremony of the Bharat Jodo Yatra will begin with flag hoisting at the Congress office in Srinagar, followed by a rally at the stadium. Sources said that 21 parties were invited to the ceremony, but some are not attending due to security reasons. Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, and TDP are among those parties which will not attend the ceremony. The padayatra ended on Sunday with Rahul Gandhi unfurling the national flag in the Lal Chowk area, but the official end is scheduled for today in Srinagar, where it is snowing.
