London. The court has ordered a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to a woman who was fired from her job just because she was pregnant. According to a report in The Telegraph, a woman working in the administration department of a firm informed her boss about her pregnancy. On being fired immediately after this, about 15 lakh rupees were received in compensation. The report says Charlotte Leach, 34, was fired from her job by the Essex-based security system supplier because she was pregnant. Leach said she felt “humiliated and spoiled” after the incident.
According to The Mirror, Leach told her manager that she had had several miscarriages in the past and was worried about the health of her unborn child. But he was dismissed from the job instead of consolation. Her boss claimed that Leach was not entitled to any maternity leave. Because he hadn’t signed his new employee contract yet. Within weeks of being fired, Leach suffered another miscarriage.
The tribunal was told that she started working for CIS Services in May 2021 as an administrative assistant with an annual salary of £20,000. The employment tribunal has now awarded her £14,885 (Rs 14,86,856) in compensation, after determining that Leach was fired for reasons “related to her pregnancy”.
