Beijing: The competition between the United States and China in the race to reach the moon is intensifying. For the next two years, it will be known which of these two countries is going to win. According to Politico’s report, NASA Chief Bill Nelson has expressed concern over China’s victory. They believe that if China wins this race, it can claim vast parts of the moon as its own.

According to the outlet, former Florida senator and astronaut Bill Nelson said, “It is a fact. We are in a space race.” It is not beyond the realm of possibility that China can do this. He can grab huge parts of the moon on the pretext of research. Nelson has explained his point by giving the example of China’s aggression in the South China Sea. He also said that the Chinese government has regularly claimed sovereignty over territory belonging to other countries. He further said, “If you doubt my words, see for yourself what they did to the Spratly Islands.”

China has prepared the outline of the space governance system
According to the report, China’s aggressive space program also includes the recent launch of a new space station. Beijing hopes to land its astronauts on the Moon by the end of this decade. In December, the Chinese government also outlined its plans for space infrastructure development and the establishment of a space governance system.

Artemis 1 of the lunar missions ended
NASA is working on the Artemis line of its lunar missions. On December 11, NASA’s Orion spacecraft splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean, ending the Artemis 1 mission. The mission lasted for more than 25 days. It was designed to return people to the Moon in a few years. 
China’s eye on the moon amid the race to make hypersonic weapons
According to NASA footage, the unmanned capsule descended into the sea with the help of three huge red and white parachutes after penetrating the atmosphere at a speed of 40,000 kilometers per hour. It should be noted that the Chinese investment in space travel and other rocket technology comes at a time when the three countries – the US, Russia, and China are all in a race to develop hypersonic weapons.
