Chandigarh. Punjab Police arrested 56 people selling this deadly kite string within a week after the Punjab Government ordered to ban the sale, storage, and purchase of Chinese Kite strings. Police have seized 1502 bundles of Chinese Manjha by registering 50 FIRs in these cases.
According to the spokesperson of the police department, after starting the crackdown on Chinese Kite String, the police have registered 284 FIRs since December 19, 2022, seized a total of 12,866 bundles of Chinese kite string and arrested 311 persons.
A spokesperson of the police department said that according to the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Police will take strict action against those who buy and sell Chinese Manjha. Significantly, on the auspicious festival of Lohri, a five-year-old child’s face was badly cut by a banned Chinese manjha in Samrala, Punjab. The cut wounds on the child’s face were so deep that the doctors had to put 120 stitches in the face to heal it.
There was a ban in the country in 2017.
This year, many people have lost their lives due to the grip of Chinese Manjha in Punjab. In July 2017, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) banned its sale across the country. After the ban, the companies making Chinese Manjha moved to the Supreme Court. But he did not get relief from there also. Chinese manjha is prepared by mixing the metallic powder in nylon thread. Many people have lost their lives due to this. The Delhi Government had also made a provision for a maximum sentence of 5 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh for possessing and using it after the NGT ban.
