New Delhi. The country’s well-known weightlifter Sanjita Chanu, who has won the gold medal twice in the Commonwealth Games, has once again got caught in the Dope Test. According to media reports, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) had taken his samples at the Gujarat National Games 2022, in which the steroid Drostanolone has been found. After this, a temporary ban has been imposed on Sanjita. Now Sanjita will have to prove her innocence in front of the hearing panel of NADA or else she will be banned for 4 years.

Sanjita, who won the gold medal in the 2014 Glasgow and 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, participated in the 49 kg weight category in the National Games held in Ahmedabad on 30 September 2022. In this Mirabai Chanu won gold with 191 kg and Sanjita won silver with 187 kg. Meanwhile, NADA had taken his sample, in which steroids have been found. According to media reports, Sanjita’s B sample has also been done and its result has come the same as the A sample.

Accused earlier also, was acquitted
Sanjita Chanu was earlier accused of doping in May 2018. However, then the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) acquitted him of the charges in 2020, admitting his mistake. This caused a loss of 2 years to Sanjita’s career. In fact, IWF took his sample in 2017 during the World Championship in America. After its investigation, it was said that his testosterone level is high. However, later IWF admitted that it made a mistake in the sample number and it is not related to Sanjita. At the same time, apart from Sanjita, Virjeet Kaur, who won the silver medal in the 55 kg weight category in the Gujarat National Games, has also been found to be dope positive.
