Islamabad. The difficulties of Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), do not seem to be reducing. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued bailable arrest warrants against Imran Khan and his other party members Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar for contempt of the Election Commission and contempt of court.
According to the news agency PTI, Imran Khan made controversial remarks against a female judge during a rally in Islamabad in August 2022. Apart from this, he also made comments against top police officers, Election Commission, and his political opponents in the rally. At the same time, the former PM of Pakistan also made controversial remarks against Additional District and Sessions Judge Jeba Chaudhary.
It is known that a few hours after the speech, a case was registered against Imran Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act for threatening the police and the judiciary. Now a four-member bench of the ECP headed by Nisar Durrani has issued warrants against Khan and his close aides Fawad Chaudhary and Asad Umar. Apart from the warrant, a fine of Rs 50,000 has also been ordered for each person.
On the other hand, after the decision of the ECP, PTI leader Asad Umar attacked the ECP by tweeting. Asad Umar wrote in his tweet, ‘The Election Commission has issued an arrest warrant against Imran Khan, me, and Fawad Chaudhary. Instead of conducting elections themselves, they are engaged in these works. They themselves are guilty of contempt of court. Along with this, he has called the ECP’s decision to issue bailable warrants an ‘insult’ to the High Court’s decision.
