Rally driver Ken Block dies in a Utah snowmobile accident at the age of 55. His Hoonigan Racing team says
Professional rally racer Ken Block, who later became an internet star thanks to his daring actions at the wheel passed away aged 55 in an accident on a snowmobile his team Hoonigan Racing said on Monday.
“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today,” Hoonigan wrote in a post on Instagram.
“Ken was an innovator, visionary in the field of photography, and an idol. But most importantly, he was the husband and father of his children. He will be greatly loved.”
The accident happened in Utah’s Wasatch County. The Sheriff’s Office said that Block was riding down an incline when the snowmobile flipped and fell on top of Block.
“He was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident,” they wrote in a press release in which they added that he was with a group of people, but was not with anyone when the accident took place.
After he began the rallying journey in the year 2005, Block was named Rookie of the Year at the Rally America Championship. He participated in the World Rally Championship and won many rallycross awards at the X Games.
It is believed that the American also co-founded the company of sportswear DC Shoes and produced the Gymkhana video series that featured him on dangerous tracks and obstacles course. The series garnered millions of hits on YouTube.
