New Delhi: The Indian team has started preparing for the ODI World Cup to be held in 2023. This prestigious tournament is to be organized in India only. A few months before the start of the tournament, former Sri Lankan captain and great batsman Kumar Sangakkara hinted that subcontinental teams like India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are not strong contenders to win the tournament.
Kumar said during a conversation on Star Sports, “I think cricket has changed a lot since 2011. In those days subcontinent players used to get an advantage in Asian conditions. But after so many years the team of England, Australia, and New Zealand have learned to play spin better than before. You see a lot of reverse sweeps, paddle shots, and sweep. Feet are needed to play these shots. IPL has helped the players a lot.
Sangakkara further said that the players of Team India who are preparing for the ODI World Cup should participate in all the ODI series and play a lot of cricket.
Let us tell you that Team India has not won the ODI World Cup title even once since 2011. India was able to reach the semi-finals in the ODI World Cup 2019. They had to face defeat from New Zealand. Due to the busy schedule of T20 cricket, the Indian team has played very few ODIs. Before the ODI World Cup, the Indian team will play the ODI series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Australia.
