In this regard, a file has been sent by the Jail Department to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office (Punjab CMO) for approval. But it is yet to get approval. It is said that Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann is on a two-day visit to Maharashtra in connection with ‘Invest Punjab’. Probably he is likely to return to Chandigarh today, after which a decision can be taken on this. There are speculations about Sidhu’s release on January 26.

It is noteworthy that the Jail Department had sent a file to the Chief Minister’s Office about a month ago, recommending the premature release of Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on the basis of ‘good conduct’. But till now the approval has not been given by the CMO. The CM will take a decision on the list sent by the jail department about Navjot Sidhu and other prisoners, keeping the tradition of releasing prisoners with ‘good conduct’ every January 26.
