New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) inaugurated a model of a memorial dedicated to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the Andaman-Nicobar Islands through video conference on the occasion of the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on Monday. Along with this, PM Modi named 21 islands of Andaman-Nicobar after the martyrs. Till now these were nameless islands, but from today these islands will be known as Paramveer Chakra winners. Addressing this program virtually, PM Modi said that this land of Andaman is that land, in whose sky the free tricolor was hoisted for the first time.
On this occasion, PM Modi said that today’s day will be remembered by generations to come as an important chapter of the nectar of freedom. These islands will be a place of endless inspiration for our generations to come. I congratulate everyone for this. He further said that 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been named. These 21 islands will be known as 21 Paramveer Chakra winners. On the island where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose lived, a national memorial dedicated to his life and contributions has been unveiled.

This land of Andaman is that land, in whose sky the free tricolor was hoisted for the first time. The first independent Indian government was formed on this land. With all this, on this land of Andaman, Veer Savarkar and innumerable heroes like him had touched the pinnacle of sacrifices for the country. For decades, there was a demand to make public the files related to Netaji’s life, this work was also taken forward with full devotion by the country. Today, the grand statue of Netaji on the ‘Kartavya Path’ in front of our democratic institutions is reminding us of our duties.

Actually, the Central Government has taken this initiative to honor the Paramveer Chakra winners. Of the 21 islands, 16 are located in North and Middle Andaman districts and five in South Andaman. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah hoisted the tricolor in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the occasion of the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose today i.e. on Monday. Amit Shah reached Port Blair late on Sunday night on a two-day visit to the Andaman-Nicobar Islands.
Netaji had unfurled the national flag at the Gymkhana ground here on December 30, 1943 and Shah will unfurl the flag at the same place today, officials said. The name of this ground is now ‘Netaji Stadium’. Amit Shah is also likely to visit the Cellular Jail, where many freedom fighters were kept during India’s freedom struggle. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands were occupied by Japan and were formally handed over to Netaji’s Azad Hind government on 29 December 1943.
