Kyiv. The Russia-Ukraine War has entered the new year. Ukraine has imposed sanctions on 182 individuals and firms from Russia and Belarus since the start of the Russian offensive in February last year. President Volodymyr Zelensky has taken this decision so that his country’s connections with Moscow and Minsk can end and they can use their assets for their own defense.
According to Reuters, Zelensky said in a video address, “His assets in Ukraine have been blocked, his assets will be used for our defense.” According to a list published by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the sanctioned companies were mainly involved in the transportation of goods, vehicle rental, and chemical production. The list includes Russian potash fertilizer producer and exporter Uralkali, Belarus state-owned potash producer Belaruskali, Belarusian Railways, as well as Russia’s VTB-Leasing and Gazprombank Leasing, both entities dealing in transport leasing.
Let us tell you that Russia on Saturday alleged that a hospital in eastern Ukraine was deliberately attacked by Ukrainian soldiers, in which 14 people were killed and 24 medical workers were injured. The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the attack took place at a hospital in Russian-occupied Novoedar, in which military doctors had been treating locals and soldiers at the hospital for several months.
