Reading FC’s Lucky Escape: VAR intervenes as Royals Fans Target Manchester United’s Weghorst
Some of the major issues from the first second of Manchester United vs Reading FC at Old Trafford in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday night.

VAR comes to the rescue
A video assistant ref stepped in to save Reading about 10 minutes before the half-time break. United believed that they had won the match after Marcus Rashford nodded the ball to the back of the net.
However, after the goal was looked at by Lee Mason, striker Wout Weghorst was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up to the goal.
The goal was later marked off, and the goal was celebrated by the huge cheers of the Reading fans, who reacted as if it were an important goal for their team.

Weghorst Chant
The 3,500 Reading supporters have been in an excellent sound so far. Before the game began, they made the most of their support by cheering the players as they completed their warm-ups.
It took just a few minutes for United to score their first chance of the game when Aaron Wan Bissaka crossed low for loan new signee Wout Weghorst.
The huge Dutchman attempted to flick the ball using the inside of his right foot, but Tom Holmes was equal to it and dragged the ball into the goal. The incident prompted Royals supporters to chant “You’re just an awful Andy Carroll.

Set pieces dominate the early stage
All it was about was the set pieces early on Three major changes were made within the first 15 minutes.
It was first Reading first, with Tom Ince getting a great chance at around 20 yards just to the left of the center after Casemiro was fouled by Jeff Hendrick. But he was unable to make it over the wall, and it was quickly cleared.
United also had two free-kicks. Both came in the vicinity of 25 yards. Christian Eriksen took the first one, but he steered it into the goal, but the second resulted in Marcus Rashford exploiting just a two-man wall, causing a sting to on the back of Joe Lumley, who flung himself towards the left side to make an impressive save. Mamadou Loum then smashed a stunning block from Eriksen when he attempted to follow up.

The reception of Paul Ince
Reading manager Paul Ince was greeted with a warm reception when he left before the match. The former England player was at United’s disposal as a player from 1989 between 1989 and 1995.
When he walked down the line towards the technical area and was applauded by his fellow Reds supporters, a sign of the extent to which they respect his presence as a player at Old Trafford.
Ince expressed his admiration for his experience in The Theatre of Dreams in the period leading up to the game, and it’s evident that the sentiment is shared by both.
