Danger: If the Tehri dam breaks, this big city of UP will drown in 12 hours! The lake spread over 42 km will be empty in 22 minutes

Pithoragarh News: A large number of hydropower projects have been built in Uttarakhand. But the biggest project in this is the Tehri Hydroelectric Project. While Tehri Dam is the largest dam in India, its number is 5th in the world.

Where Tehri Dam is the largest dam in India and is number 5 in the world.

Pithoragarh. Hydroelectric projects are also being held responsible for the disaster in Joshimath, Uttarakhand. It is believed that due to the construction of the tunnel, the land here had become completely hollow inside. The result is that now it has started cracking in many places. In such a situation, many questions have started to arise about hydroelectric projects. Amidst the questions arising on hydroelectric projects, the discussion on Tehri dam, one of the largest dams in the world, is also intensifying, which was built to generate 2400 MW of electricity.

There, 17 years after the construction of the project, only 1000 MW of electricity is being produced. While Tehri city had to be submerged in the construction of Tehri Dam, 37 villages were completely submerged. Not only this, but other 88 villages have also been partially affected. The situation is such that due to the construction of the Tehri dam, there is always danger in 40 villages. In these villages, there are often incidents of land cracking. Work was to be done in three phases in Tehri Dam.

The Tehri dam of 1000 MW was to be constructed in the first phase, while the Koteshwar dam of 400 MW was to be built in the second phase. While in the end, the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Project was to be built. But in making the plan an entire civilization was drowned. There still power generation is not happening as per the target. Not only this, it is believed that if an earthquake of great intensity occurs, the dam may also break.

If this happens, it is sure that the area up to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Bijnor, Meerut, and Bulandshahr will be completely submerged. If the Tehri dam breaks, Rishikesh and Haridwar will be completely submerged in water in just one hour. While the water from the dam will reach Meerut in 12 hours. Apart from this, it will take only 22 minutes to empty the 42-kilometer-long lake of Tehri Dam.
