Aero India 2023: US Air Force’s supersonic F-35 aircraft joins ‘Aero India’ for the first time
Two fifth-generation supersonic multi-role F-35A aircraft of the US Air Force (USAF) were on display for the first time at ‘Aero-India’ here on Monday. According to Indian military officials, this is the first time that an F-35 aircraft of the US Air Force has landed in India.

Bengaluru: Two fifth-generation supersonic multi-role F-35A aircraft of the US Air Force (USAF) were on display for the first time at ‘Aero-India’ here on Monday. Two fighter jets – F-35A Lightning-2 and F-35A Joint Strike Fighter – arrived at Yelahanka Air Force Station on the outskirts of Bengaluru after their journey from Air Force bases in Utah and Alaska in the US. According to Indian military officials, this is the first time that an F-35 aircraft of the US Air Force has landed in India. In addition to the two F-35s, an F-16 fighter jet of the US Air Force Falcon will perform aerial stunts to demonstrate the capability of one of the main fighters of the force.
The F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornets, the US Navy’s most advanced frontline carrier-based multirole strike fighter aircraft, are also part of the US display. A statement from the US side said that after traveling from Hill Air Force Base in Utah, US, the F-35A Lightning-2 Demonstration Team will impress the crowd with a display of its unique aerial capabilities. The F-35A Lightning-2 from Elson Air Force Base in Alaska will also be included in the exhibition. US Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force and International Affairs Major General Julian C Cheater said that ‘Aero India’ is an ideal platform to showcase the most advanced, lethal, and ‘interoperable’ weapon systems by the US.
He said, ‘The F-35 aircraft represents the leading technology of American fighter aircraft. ‘Aero India’ is an ideal platform to showcase the most advanced, capable, lethal, and interoperable weapon systems in the US. This system and others have been designed for advanced immunity. The statement said that the F-35’s engine produces 43,000 pounds of reaction force (thrust).
US Ambassador to India Elizabeth Jones said the size of the US delegation and the country’s participation in ‘Aero India’ shows that the US-India strategic partnership is “one of our most important relationships”. Jones said on Sunday, ‘We are strengthening our cooperation on critical technologies from space equipment to semiconductors.’ US companies participating in ‘Aero India include Boeing, GE Aerospace, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc., Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, TW Metals, LLC, and United Performance Metals.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Aero India’ on Monday. This five-day exhibition is considered to be the biggest exhibition in Asia. The Prime Minister projected India as an attractive destination for investment in the defense manufacturing sector, saying that it would be poised to become one of the leading exporters of military equipment globally. Modi made the remarks in his address after inaugurating the 14th edition of ‘Aero India’ at the Yelahanka Air Force Station complex on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
