Mumbai: Anurag Kashyap, who made an offbeat film like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, is now coming with the film ‘Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat’. Anurag served a new genre of film in front of the audience and was also successful in it, but the director himself has seen many painful days in this Mumbai. In the interview given during the promotion of his upcoming film, Anurag opened the letter about his struggling days.
Anurag Kashyap came to Mumbai in the year 1993. In Mashable India’s YouTube series ‘The Bombay Journey’, Mumbai was told how much this city has changed in the last 30 years. He has the story of every nook and corner of this city. Slept on the footpath as there was no place to stay. Sometimes I used to get to stay at Imtiaz Ali’s college. We were allowed to keep our luggage in the Prithvi Theater and could use the washroom there in the morning.
Anurag used to sleep on the footpath by paying 6 rupees
Anurag Kashyap told that at that time there was a garden in the middle of Juhu circle, where we used to sleep but sometimes we have driven away from there too. Then we went to Versova Link Road, where there was a big footpath, where people used to sleep in queues, but had to pay Rs 6 for that.
Desperate, Anurag started drinking heavily
Anurag Kashyap told that he was the co-writer of the film ‘Satya’, and after that, he ventured into the direction. Made ‘Paanch’ film which flopped, then made ‘Black Friday’ which ran into trouble as soon as it was released. I locked myself in a room and started drinking. it was all over. Been drinking heavily for one and a half years. Aarti (first wife) threw me out of the house, at that time my daughter was 4 years old.
