Lahore: Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan claimed that former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa wanted him to condemn Russia for the invasion of Ukraine, but he refused to do so citing the example of India. During an interaction with students and religious scholars on Monday, Khan said, “General Bajwa, on his return from his trip to Russia (a year ago when he was prime minister), asked me to condemn Russia’s attack on Ukraine.” I told him that India, a strategic ally of America, has been neutral. That’s why Pakistan should remain neutral.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Khan said that after his refusal, General Bajwa himself condemned Russia in a security seminar to please the US.
The 70-year-old Khan, who was ousted from power through a no-confidence motion in April last year, justified his visit to Russia by saying, “I went to Russia and convinced President Vladimir Putin to give wheat and fuel to Pakistan at cheaper rates than India.” took. With Russia’s support, India reduced its inflation from 7.5 percent to 5.5 percent, but Pakistan’s inflation rate increased from 12 percent to 30 percent.’
Khan said that Bajwa wanted him to condemn Putin to please America. He said, ‘But I kept the interests of Pakistan above.’
