Navsari: A court in Gujarat’s Navsari has imposed a fine of Rs 99 on Congress MLA Anant Patel in a 2017 case. In it, Patel was accused of barging into the chamber of the vice-chancellor of an agricultural university and tearing the portrait of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during student protests. the court found the 3 accused guilty and ordered them to deposit a fine of Rs 99, failing which they would have to undergo simple imprisonment for 7 days. However, the defence claimed that the FIR was the result of a political fight as the accused were members of the opposition Congress party.
