Government alerted about heat, PM Modi held a high-level meeting, gave instructions for special preparations

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening chaired a high-level meeting to review preparedness for the hot weather amid fears of a severe heatwave this year. During this, PM Modi inquired about the monsoon forecast, the impact on rabi crops, preparedness of medical infrastructure and disaster preparedness related to heat and mitigation measures.

According to the statement issued by the PMO, Prime Minister Modi asked to prepare different awareness materials for different stakeholders. Along with this, PM Modi directed IMD to prepare daily weather forecasts in such a way that it is easy to interpret and disseminate it. The Prime Minister also stressed the need for a detailed fire audit of all hospitals and asked the FCI to be prepared to ensure optimum storage of food grains in adverse weather conditions.

Instructions for special lectures in schools to deal with heat
According to the PMO, schools have been asked to organize special lectures to prepare children to deal with extreme heat conditions. The Prime Minister said that ‘Dos and Don’ts for hot weather’ should be prepared in an accessible format and various means of publicity like jingles, films, pamphlets etc. should also be prepared and released.

The Prime Minister asked the IMD to issue daily weather forecasts in a manner that could be easily interpreted and disseminated. He also stressed involving news channels, FM radio etc. for dissemination of weather forecasts, so that citizens are facilitated to take necessary precautions.

Fire audit and mock drill will be done in all hospitals
PMO said, ‘The Prime Minister emphasized the need for a detailed audit of fire prevention measures of all hospitals and said that mock fire drill should be conducted in all hospitals by the fire department. ‘ He stressed the need for a coordinated effort to combat forest fires and called for systemic changes in efforts to prevent and combat them.

The Prime Minister also directed to keep an eye on the availability of fodder and water in the reservoirs. The PMO said that the Food Corporation of India has been asked to prepare to ensure the storage of food grains in adverse weather conditions.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Secretary, of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Secretary, of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Secretary, of the Ministry of Earth Sciences and Member Secretary, NDMA.
