Indian Rail Network: Indian Railways is working in mission mode to become a completely green railway. Under this, the railway has achieved a big achievement in Uttarakhand. Railways have set a target of becoming a net zero carbon emitter before 2030. Indian Railways has achieved another important milestone recently after the completion of the electrification of railways in Uttar Pradesh. Indian Railways has also completed the electrification work in Uttarakhand. The existing broad gauge network of Uttarakhand is 347 route kilometres, which has been 100 per cent electrified. As a result, the cost of transportation has been reduced by about 2.5 times. In addition, increased carrying capacity increased sectional capacity, reduction in operation and maintenance cost of electric locos, and energy-efficient and eco-friendly mode of transport due to less dependence on imported crude has resulted in savings of foreign exchange.

The Indian Railways network plays a critical role in the country’s economy, connecting people and goods across the country and supporting industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. The network offers a range of passenger and freight services, including long-distance and suburban rail services, as well as specialized services such as luxury trains.

While the network is extensive, it also faces a range of challenges, including ageing infrastructure, overcrowding, and safety concerns. In recent years, the government has made efforts to modernize and improve the network, with investments in new technology, electrification, and safety measures. For example, the government has set a target to electrify the entire railway network by 2023, which is expected to lead to significant improvements in efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

Overall, the Indian Railways network is a critical part of the country’s infrastructure and plays a key role in supporting economic growth and development.
