Vande Bharat Express

Vande Bharat Express is a high-speed train in India that was launched in February 2019. It is the fastest train in India, with a top speed of 180 km/hour. The train was designed and built by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, which is a part of the Indian Railways. It is a flagship project of the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing.

The Vande Bharat Express currently runs between New Delhi and Varanasi, covering a distance of 780 km in approximately 8 hours. The train is equipped with several modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, GPS-based passenger information systems, automatic doors, bio-toilets, and a state-of-the-art HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system.

The Vande Bharat Express has several unique features that distinguish it from other trains in India. It is a fully air-conditioned train with 16 coaches, including two executive class coaches. The train has a seating capacity of 1,128 passengers, and the seats can be rotated to face the direction of travel. The train also has automatic sliding doors, which can be opened and closed by sensors. The train is powered by a self-propulsion system, which eliminates the need for a locomotive.

The Vande Bharat Express has received positive reviews from passengers and the media, with many praising its speed, comfort, and modern amenities. The train has also been hailed as a significant achievement for the Indian Railways, which has been working to modernize its infrastructure and improve passenger amenities.

Plans are underway to introduce the Vande Bharat Express on other routes in India, such as Delhi-Katra and Mumbai-Ahmedabad. The Indian government has also announced plans to export the Vande Bharat Express to other countries, such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, as part of its efforts to promote Indian manufacturing and technology.

  • The Vande Bharat Express was initially called the Train 18, as it was designed and developed in just 18 months. It was later renamed as the Vande Bharat Express, in honour of the country’s achievements and progress.
  • The train was designed with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. It is equipped with regenerative braking systems, which can help generate power and reduce energy consumption. The train is also made of lightweight material, which reduces its weight and energy consumption.
  • The Vande Bharat Express has been involved in some controversies since its launch. In 2019, the train was hit by stones during its inaugural journey, which led to some damage to the train’s windows. There were also reports of theft and vandalism on the train during some of its journeys.
