A recent survey has revealed that most Bangaloreans are glued to their mobile phones. In this survey, 91% of the people admitted that they use the phone in bed before sleeping.

Today, the idiom of basic human needs – ‘Roti, Kapda aur Makaan‘ has been replaced by the idiom – ‘Phone, Charger and Internet’. A recent survey has revealed that most Bangaloreans are glued to their mobile phones. In this survey, 91% of the people admitted that they use the phone in bed before sleeping. While 38% browse social media while lying down, 29% worry about being fired from work and can’t sleep at night because of it.

Survey on sleep in ‘Great Indian Sleep Scorecard’
These figures have come out in a sleep survey titled ‘Great Indian Sleep Scorecard‘ conducted by mattress maker Wakefit from February 2022 to March 2023 in Bengaluru and the rest of the country. More than 10,000 people were involved in this survey. In the sixth edition of this comprehensive survey, conducted among 4,000 people of different ages and demographics in Bengaluru, the sleep patterns of people in Bengaluru, known as the Silicon Valley of India, are shown.

60% of people get to sleep at work A
A 13-month survey revealed that 61% of people go to bed after 11 pm, while the ideal time to sleep is considered to be 10 pm. The survey found that despite sleeping late, 29% of Bengaluru residents wake up between 7 am and 8 am and 60% admit they feel sleepy at work. Around 34% also complained of not feeling refreshed in the morning.

26% of people claimed insomnia,
another interesting thing that came out in this survey is that 32% of people sleep in places other than the bed. At the same time, 40% of respondents said that the bedroom environment affected their quality of sleep, while 20% believed that a better mattress could improve their sleep. With many people in Bengaluru unable to sleep, 26% feel they suffer from insomnia. Health experts believe that an adult needs 6-7 hours of sleep a day. Staying away from devices and gadgets can also help enhance the quality of sleep.

Phone addiction is a real phenomenon, and it can have negative consequences on your life. When you use your phone excessively, it can interfere with your relationships, work, and daily activities. Here are some tips to help you overcome phone addiction:

  3. Turn off notifications: Turn off notifications for apps that are not essential, so you’re not constantly distracted by your phone.
  4. Create phone-free zones: Establish phone-free zones in your home, such as your bedroom or the dinner table, where you’re not allowed to use your phone.
  5. Find alternative activities: Find other activities that you enjoy, such as exercise, hobbies, or spending time with friends and family, that can help you reduce your reliance on your phone.
  6. Use your phone intentionally: Instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media or other apps, use your phone with a specific purpose in mind. For example, use it to read an article or watch a video that you’ve been meaning to check out.
  7. Keep your phone out of reach: When you’re in a situation where you don’t need your phone, such as during a meeting or while driving, keep it out of reach. This will reduce the temptation to check it unnecessarily.
  8. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness can help you become more aware of your phone usage and the reasons behind it. When you feel the urge to check your phone, take a deep breath and ask yourself if it’s really necessary.
  9. Set boundaries with others: Let your friends, family, and colleagues know that you’re trying to reduce your phone usage, and ask them to respect your boundaries. For example, you can tell them that you won’t be responding to messages or calls during certain times of the day.
  10. Seek professional help: If you’re struggling to overcome phone addiction on your own, consider seeking help from a therapist or counsellor. They can provide you with additional support and strategies for managing your addiction.
